Throw away the trash ゴミを捨てる Romans 7:25a ローマ７章２５節a
(Romans 7:25a) Thanks be to God--through Jesus Christ our Lord! ローマ７章２５節a私たちの主イエス・キリストのゆえに、ただ神に感謝します。
Recently, I was driving in Osaka. 最近私は大阪で運転していました。
It was a big road that was under an express way. そこは高速道路の下にある大きな道でした。
As I drove, there were houses, shops, and small factories on the left side of the road. 運転中、道路の左側には住宅、店、小さな工場がありました。
But on the right side, piles of trash lined the road as far as I could see. でも道路の右側は私の見える範囲ではゴミが道沿いにずっと捨てられたいました。
There were empty bottles, lunch box containers, and plastic bags filled with household trash. 空のペットボトル、コンビニのお弁当箱、家庭ごみがいっぱいつまったゴミ袋が散乱していました。
It was a real mess. ほんとうにひどく散らかっていました。
Why was it there? なぜそのような状態になったのでしょう？
Was that the right place for the trash to be? そこはゴミを捨てるための正しい場所だったのでしょうか？
Was it good that the trash was there? ゴミはそこにあってよかったのでしょうか？
What should be done with that trash? そのゴミをどうすべきだったのでしょう？
I want to start looking at this problem by thinking about what trash is. まずゴミとは何であるのかについて考えてみましょう。い
What is trash? ゴミとは何でしょう？
Trash is something that we don’t want. ゴミは私たちがいらない物です。
It is something that we had. それは私たちが所有していたものです。
It is something that we once wanted. 一度は欲しいと思った物です。
Or it is the byproduct of something that was important to us. あるいは、私たちにとって重要だった物から出てきた物です。
But now it is trash. でも、今はゴミです。
We don’t need it. もう必要ではありません。
We don’t want it. もう欲しくありません。
We want to be freed from its influence. その物の影響から自由になりたいのです。
And so we try to separate ourselves from it. だから私たちはそれから離れようとするのです。
We throw it away. それを捨てます。
We throw our trash away. ゴミを捨てます。
Now, I want to focus on this English word: “throw away.” この『throw away』という英語に注目してみたいと思います。
As I have just said, when we throw away something away, our aim is to separate ourselves from it. さっき言ったように、何か捨てるとき、私たちの目的はそれから離れることです。
But the problem is, where is “away?” 問題は、away、つまり、離れたところが実際どこにあるか、です。
When we throw something away, where does it go? 何かを捨てるとき、そのゴミはどこに行くのでしょう？
Well, in the case of that road in Osaka, I can imagine people were driving their cars along the road; 大阪の道路の場合、人々は運転していたでしょう。
and they wanted to get rid of their trash. そこで彼らはゴミを捨てたかったのでしょう。
So they threw it away. だから彼らはゴミを捨ててしまいました。
They opened their car windows, and they threw their trash out the window. 車の窓を開け、窓からゴミを投げ捨てました。
They threw that trash away from themselves. 自分の身の回りからゴミを捨てました。
But just where was away? だけどどこに捨てたのでしょう？
It was the side of the road. それは道端でした。
It was under the bridge. 橋の下でした。
It was in the park. 公園でした。
Although people had thrown away their trash, that trash hadn’t been “cleaned up.” ゴミを捨てたけれども、ゴミは片付けられてはいませんでした。
Although they had wanted to remove their trash from their presence, that trash hadn’t been disposed of. 自分の周りからゴミを撤去したかったけれど、ゴミは処理されませんでした。 That trash was still present and a very real influence. ゴミはまだそこにあり、実際にはまだ影響を与えるものでした。
In fact, trash had been there for a very long time! 事実、ゴミはとても長い間そこにありました。
It had been there so long that I don’t think most people even noticed it. ゴミはあまりに長い間そこにあったので、ほとんどの人がそれに気づきさえしないのだと思います。
They saw it every day. 人々は毎日ゴミを見ていました。
In some way, they are influenced by it every day. なんらかの形で、人々はゴミの影響を受けます。
But it has become so normal to see it there that they don’t even realize it is there. ゴミがそこにあるのがあまりにも自然な状態になるので、人々はゴミがあることさえ認識しません。
We can say that they have become sensitized to the trash there. ゴミがそこにあることに鈍感になると言えます。
Not only are people used to seeing trash there; かつてはゴミがそこにあったと見慣れているだけでなく
Because it has become normal, it has become natural, acceptable (良しとされ), for people to continue to throw more trash there. ゴミがあることが普通になり、自然な状態になので、そこにさらにゴミが捨て続けられることが良しとされています。
People who throw the trash away there don’t think it is wrong. そこにごみを捨てる人はそれが間違っていると思っていません。
They think that they are throwing their trash “away.” 彼らはゴミは自分自身から離れていくものぐらいにしか考えていません。
But in reality, all they are doing is moving it to a different place. しかし、現実には彼らがやっていることはゴミを違う場所に移動しているだけです。
And the people who see the trash there are not shocked by it. さらにゴミがそこにあるとわかっている人もなんとも思いません。
It seems to be a natural part of the landscape. 日常の風景の一部となっているのでしょう。 But can you imagine walking along the side of the road; でも、道路わきの歩道を歩いているところを想像してみてください。
and as a car drives past you, a bag of trash is thrown out the car window. 車がそばを通り過ぎるとき、車の窓からゴミ袋が投げ捨てられたとしましょう。
Bang! Right in the side of your head. バシッ！頭に直撃！
Ahh, thank you very much! ありがとうございます！
So, what should we do with our trash? では、ゴミをどうすべきでしょう？
How can we remove it from our presence? 自分の周りからどうやってゴミを取り除くことができるでしょう？
How can we throw it “away?” どうやったらゴミを自分から離れたところにちゃんと捨てることができるでしょう？
How can we properly dispose of it? どうやったら正しくゴミの処理ができるのでしょう？
How can we free ourselves from its influence? どうやったらゴミの影響から自由になれるのでしょう？
Well, of course, the answer is to take the trash to the trash collection place. もちろん、答えはゴミの収集場所に持っていくことです。
If we take it there, then someone will come and take it away. そこにゴミを持って行けば、回収業者の人がやってきて、ゴミを持って行ってくれるでしょう。
There are professionals who are qualified to take our trash and dispose of it properly. ゴミを回収する資格があり、正しく処理する業者があります。
They dispose of it in such a way that it won’t be a problem for other people. 彼らはほかの人に迷惑のかからない方法でゴミを処理します。
And it won’t influence us anymore. もう影響することはないでしょう。
It’s a job that we can’t actually do for ourselves. 私たちが実際に自分のためにできない仕事です。
It’s a job that we can’t do ourselves. 自分ではできない仕事です。
We need to give our trash to the professionals – the people who are qualified to do that job. 私たちはゴミを業者に託さなければなりません。その仕事をする資格を持つ人に任せなければなりません。
When you take your trash to the collection place, do you ever consider that you are giving it away? ゴミを収集場所に持って行くと、そのゴミは勝手に消えてしまうのではなく、実は自分が誰かにそのゴミを明け渡していることになるとかんがえたことがありますか？
Do you feel like you are seeking help to get rid of a problem? 問題を解決する助けを求めているようだと感じますか？
Do you think of it as handing it over, surrendering your problem to a professional? その時、自分の問題となっているものを資格を持っている人に明け渡している、委ねていると考えてことがありますか？
Probably not! たぶんないでしょう。
I think that most of the time, we “dump” our trash without thinking about what will happen to it. たいてい私たちはゴミがどうなるのか考えることもなくゴミを捨ててしまうと思います。
We don’t care about who will collect it for us. 私たちのためにゴミを収集してくれる人のことを考えません。
Sometimes I have been a bit late taking the trash to the collection place. 時々私はゴミ置き場にゴミを持っていくのが少し遅れてしまいます。
When I got there, men were just finishing loading the trash into the truck. そこに着くと、ゴミ回収業者の人がトラックにゴミを載せ終えたところでした。
So I had to hand deliver my trash directly into the hands of the trash collector. だから私は彼の手に直接ゴミを手渡さなければなりませんでした。
I had to look him in the eyes and say: “Thank you very much! Sorry I’m late!” 目を合わせて言わなければいけませんでした。「どうもありがとうございます。おくれてすみません！」
Have you ever done that? そんな経験がありますか？
I asked a friend about this, and he had the same experience as me. 私はこのことについて友達に聞いてみました。彼も同じような経験があるということでした。
Every time this has happened, the trash collector smiled and said: “Next time, bring it here by 8:30!” このようなことがあっても、いつもゴミ回収業者の人は微笑んで言いました。「次は8：30までにここにゴミを持ってきてくださいね！」
Well, that is how to throw away the trash. ゴミをどのように捨てるか、ということですね。
But what about the trash in our hearts? では、私たちの心の中のゴミについてはどうでしょう？
What should we do with the negative feelings that we want to throw away? 私たちが消し去ってしまいたい否定的な感情はどのようにしたらいいでしょう？
How can we dispose of the hurts of bad experiences in our hearts that we don’t want? どうしたら私たちが持っていたくない心の中にある嫌な経験の痛みを取り去ることができるでしょう？
How can we be freed from the influence of our sin? どうしたら罪の影響から自由になることができるでしょう？
What happens when we try to get rid of what is in our hearts? 心の中にあるものを取り去ろうとするとどうなるでしょう？
When trying to clean up our hearts, where is “away?” 心をきれいにしようとすることで、いわゆる、away、つまり私から離れたところとはどこでしょう？
Well, often, it is like someone driving in their car. 場合によっては、それは車を運転しているようなものです。
They open the window, and throw out the trash. 窓を開けて、ゴミを捨てるのです。
And too bad if you happen to be in the way, because their trash is going to hit you! そこに居合わせたら、最悪です。そのゴミはあなたに当たってしまいます！
Or maybe, just maybe, it is me who is hitting other people with my own trash! もしかすると、ひょっとしたら、そのゴミを他の人に当ててしまっているのは自分かもしれません。
What should we do with the trash of our hearts? 心の中のゴミをどうすべきなのでしょう？
How can we dispose of it? どうしたらそれを処理できるでしょう？
Where can we throw it? どこに心のゴミを捨てられるでしょう？
How can we be freed from its influence? どうしたらその影響から自由になれるでしょう？
It’s just the same as with our household trash. 家庭から出るごみと同じです。
We can’t do it for ourselves. 私たちは自分のために何もできません。
We can’t do it ourselves. 自分では何もできないのです。
We need help. 私たちには助けが必要なのです。
We need professional help. 資格を持った人の助けが必要なのです。
We need someone who can throw away our trash for us. 私たちのゴミを私たちのために捨ててくれることができる人が必要なのです。
We need someone to whom we can surrender our trash; 私たちのゴミを委ねることができる人が必要です。
Someone who will take our trash from us and dispose of it properly. 私たちからゴミを持って行き、適切に処理してくれる人です。
We need a trash collector for our hearts! 心のゴミ処理業者さんが必要なのです！
Many people think that the Bible is a book of stories about good people. 多くの人は聖書は良い人の物語だと思っています。
It is called the Holy Bible, so they think that it is full of people who are holy. 聖なる書と呼ばれているので、清らかな人でいっぱいだと思うのでしょう。
A large section of the New Testament was written by a man named Paul. 新約聖書の多くの部分はパウロによって書かれました。
What kind of person must Paul have been for God to use him to write so much important information for every generation of people who have chosen to follow Jesus?! イエス様に従うと決めた世代ごとの人のために、こんなにたくさんの重要なことを書きのこそうとし、神様に用いられる、パウロは一体どんな人だったのでしょうか？ Was Paul a good person? パウロは良い人だったのでしょうか？
Was Paul holy? パウロは清らかな人だったのでしょうか？
Paul wrote very openly about the struggle that he experienced within his heart. 実は、パウロは包み隠さず心の中のもがき苦しみを書き記しました。
He said:
I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.
私は、私のうち、すなわち、私の肉のうちに善が住んでいないのを知っています。私には善をしたいという願いがいつもあるのに、それを実行することがないからです。 For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing. ( Romans 7: 18-19)
私は、自分でしたいと思う善を行わないで、かえって、したくない悪を行っています。（ローマ７章１８節〜１９節） Paul knew what was good. パウロは何が良いことなのか知っていました。
Paul knew what was right. パウロは何が正しいことなのか知っていました。
Paul wanted to be good, he wanted to do what was right. パウロは良い人になりたかったし、正しいことをしたいと思っていました。
This was certainly from his true heart. これが彼の心の真実でした。
But at the same time, Paul experienced conflict within his heart; しかし同時にパウロは心の中の矛盾を経験しました。
because although he knew what was good, and although he wanted to do what he knew was right, he found himself inevitably doing what he knew was wrong. 彼は何が良いことで、彼が知っている正しいことをしたいと思っていたけれど、まちがっているとわかっていることをついしてしまうことがわかっていました。
And this conflict caused him pain. この矛盾が彼に痛みを与えました。
He cried out: 彼は叫びました。
What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? (Romans 7:24)
私は、ほんとうにみじめな人間です。だれがこの死の、からだから、私を救い出してくれるのでしょうか。（ローマ７章２４節） "Who will rescue me from this body of death?" だれがこの死の、からだから、私を救い出してくれるのでしょうか？
Who will take this trash from my heart? だれが私の心からこのゴミを持って行ってくれるのでしょうか？
Who will dispose of it for me? だれが私のためにこのゴミを処理してくれるのでしょうか？
Who will free me from its influence? だれがその影響から私を自由にしてくれるのでしょうか？
Paul wrote much of the New Testament. パウロは新約聖書の多くの部分を書きました。
He wrote a lot about various problems that people experienced: パウロは人が経験する多くの問題について書きました。
He wrote about the struggle between knowing what is right and actually being to do what is right. 彼は何が正しいか知ることと、実際にそれをすることの心の葛藤について書きました。
Even though the Bible is the holy book, Paul was very open about the truth within his own heart. 聖書は聖なる書物であるけれど、パウロは自分の心の中の真実についてとても正直でした。
Paul struggled with things in his heart that he didn’t want there. パウロは望んでいない心の中のものにもがき苦しんでいました。
Jesus’ disciple, John was also very aware of the true state of his own heart before God. イエス様の弟子のヨハネも神様の前で自分自身の心の真の状態についてよく知っていました。
He wrote: ヨハネは次のように述べています。
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. (1 John 1:8)
もし、罪はないと言うなら、私たちは自分を欺いており、真理は私たちのうちにありません。（ヨハネ１章８節） John said “If WE.” ヨハネは「もし私たちが」と言いました。
Not, “If YOU!” 「もしあなたがたが」ではありません。
“If WE!” 「私たちが」です！
John is honestly including himself in this reality. ヨハネはこの現実に対して、正直に自分自身も含めています。
I think what we often do when we recognize that there is something not right within our hearts is to start making efforts to make it right ourselves. 自分の心に良くないものがあると自覚するときに自分のために自分でそれを良くしようとする努力をすることが普通と思います。
We try to do good in some other kind of way. 私たちはほかの方法で良いことをしようとします。
We try to make up for the wrong that is there. 良いことをすることで、良くないことを帳消しにしようとします。
We think that by doing something good, we will cover for that wrong. 良いことをすると過ちを覆い隠すと思っています。
We try to do good things in order to get rid of the bad things. 過ちを取り去るために良いことをしようとします。
In other words, it can be like we are trying to throw out our own trash. いわば、自分のゴミを自分で捨てようとしているようなものです。
But no matter what we do, we are not actually disposing of it, we are only moving it to another place. でも私たちが何をしようと、私たちは実際にゴミを処理しようとせず、別の場所に移動させているだけなのです。
And then we get so used to it being there that we stop noticing it. そこで、それがそこにあるのに気にすることをやめたようなものです。
We become sensitised to it. 私たちはそのことに鈍感になってしまいます。
It seems to be a natural part of the landscape of our hearts. それは心の状態の普通の部分のようになります。
But John warns us that if we think like that, we are just deceiving ourselves. しかしヨハネは私たちがそのように考えるなら、単に自分をごまかしているだけだと警告しています。
We can’t get rid of our own problems ourselves. 私たちは自分自身の問題を取り除くことはできません。
We can’t throw away our own trash. 自分のゴミを捨て去ることはできません。
We are not qualified to dispose of our own sin. 私たちの罪を処理する資格を持っていません。
I love the beginning of Isaiah in the Old Testament. 私は旧約聖書のイザヤ書の冒頭部分が大好きです。
"Come now, let us reason together," says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. (Isaiah 1:18) 「さあ、来たれ。論じ合おう」と【主】は仰せられる。「たとい、あなたがたの罪が緋のように赤くても、雪のように白くなる。たとい、紅のように赤くても、羊の毛のようになる。（イザヤ１章１８節） God starts here by clarifying the problem. 神様はまず問題を明らかにされます。
People have sin. 人は罪を持っています。
That is just the reality of life. それは人生の真実です。
Life is not an issue of being a good person or a bad person. 人生は良い人であるか、悪い人であるかの問題ではありません。
Sin is something that we are all born with. 罪は私たちすべてが生まれながらに持っているものです。
And so, in the light of God’s revelation, it is something that we must all face. それを神様が明らかにしたゆえに、私たちは向き合わなければなりません。
But God says “Let’s reason through this.” でも神様は、「このことを通して考えましょう」とおっしゃいます。
He says: “Let’s clarify what the situation is so that we can both agree on what the solution to this problem is.” 「問題解決に向けて、お互いに納得できるようにその問題を明確にしようよ」と、言っておられます。 God is seeking for us to rationally and willingly acknowledge and embrace the solution to the problem of our sin. 神様は罪の問題の解決を合理的にすすんで認めること、受け入れることを私たちに求めています。
This winter, we had so much snow. 今年の冬は大雪が降りました。
I went out to Suizawa a couple of times, and everything was completely covered in snow. 私は何回か水沢に出かけました。すべてが雪ですっかり覆われていました。
Even the rows of tea bushes were all covered over. お茶畑さえすっぽりと雪に包み込まれました。
So, of course, if there was any trash there, that was also completely covered over by the snow. もしそこにゴミがあっても、雪で完全に覆われてしまったでしょう。
The snow made everything look so clean. 雪はすべてのものをきれいに見えるようにしました。
The covering of the snow made everything look pure. 雪で覆われるとすべてが清いものに見えます。
And that is what God is saying about our sin. それは神様が罪についておっしゃっていることと同じです。
It will be covered over. 罪は包み込まれます。
But it is God who provides the covering. しかし、その覆いを与えてくださるのは神様です。
We cannot throw away our own sin. 私たちは自分の罪を捨て去ることができません。
We cannot cover over our sin ourselves. 自分の罪を自分で覆い隠すことができません。
That’s why Paul cried out: パウロが叫びました。 。 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? (Romans 7:24)
私は、ほんとうにみじめな人間です。だれがこの死の、からだから、私を救い出してくれるのでしょうか。（ローマ７章２４節）
But at the same time, Paul embraced the solution to the problem of his sin. しかし同時にパウロは自分の罪の問題の解決方法を喜びました。
Thanks be to God--through Jesus Christ our Lord! (Romans 7:25a)
私たちの主イエス・キリストのゆえに、ただ神に感謝します。（ローマ７章２５節a)
The solution was in trusting in Jesus その解決方法はイエス様を信頼することでした。 Paul continued to explain the dynamic of this relationship with Jesus to Timothy: パウロはこのイエス様との関係のあり方をテモテに説明し続けました。
Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners--of whom I am the worst.
「キリスト・イエスは、罪人を救うためにこの世に来られた」ということばは、まことであり、そのまま受け入れるに値するものです。私はその罪人のかしらです。 But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life. (1 Timothy 1:15,16)
しかし、そのような私があわれみを受けたのは、イエス・キリストが、今後彼を信じて永遠のいのちを得ようとしている人々の見本にしようと、まず私に対してこの上ない寛容を示してくださったからです。（テモテ第１ １章１５節〜１６節）
Jesus’ disciple, John declared: イエス様の弟子のヨハネは次のように述べています。
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
もし、罪はないと言うなら、私たちは自分を欺いており、真理は私たちのうちにありません。 But he then also continued: しかしヨハネはこのように続けました。
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:8-9)
もし、私たちが自分の罪を言い表すなら、神は真実で正しい方ですから、その罪を赦し、すべての悪から私たちをきよめてくださいます。（ヨハネ第１ １章８節〜９節） Our primary problem in life is not to become a good person. 人生の究極の問題は良い人になることではありません。
It is about becoming a forgiven person. 赦される人になることです。
It is about having our trash, or problems, our sin, taken away from us. 自分のいわゆるゴミ、問題、罪を取り去っていただくことなのです。
It is about having our sin covered over, and us being purified from that sin. 自分の罪を覆ってくださり、その罪からきよめられていくことなのです。
And it is God who provided this solution. そして、この問題を解決を解決してくださる方は神様です。
Paul experienced conflict in his heart. パウロは心の中の矛盾を経験しました。
He knew what was right. 何が正しいか知っていました。
But he was continually confronted with the reality of so-called trash in his heart that caused him to do the opposite. でも彼は反対のことをしてしまう、心の中にあるいわゆるゴミという現実に直面し続けました。
However, Paul found freedom from this conflict by knowing that his sins had been covered over and disposed of. しかしパウロは自分の罪が覆い隠され、処理されることを知ることでこの矛盾から解放されました。
Paul experienced release from the influence of his sin by experiencing the forgiveness of those sins. パウロは罪の赦しを経験することで罪の影響から解き放たれることを経験しました。
Jesus is the One who is qualified to take our sins and dispose of them: イエス様こそが私たちの罪を取り去り、処理する資格を持つお方です。
So He calls us to give our sins to Him. だからイエス様は私たちの罪をご自身にゆだねさせるために私たちを招きます。
Jesus is the One who is able to cover over our sins and purify us from our sins: イエス様こそが私たちの罪を覆い隠し、その罪から私たちをきよめることができるお方です。
So He calls us to surrender ourselves to Him. だからイエス様は私たちをご自分にゆだねるように私たちを招きます。
Jesus is the One who is able to free us from the influence of our sins. イエス様こそが罪の影響から私たちを自由にすることができるお方です。
So He calls us to trust Him, to trust that He will accept us just as we are, and to trust that He is able to do this for us. だからイエス様はご自分を信頼するように、私たちをこのまま受け入れ、そうしてくださることを信頼するように招いてくださっています。
Father God, 天のお父様 Thank you for giving us Jesus. イエス様を私たちに与えてくださってありがとうございます。 Through Jesus, you cover over our sins. イエス様を通してあなたは私たちの罪を覆い隠してくださいます。 You forgive us and cleanse us from our sins. あなたは私たちを許し、私たちの罪から清めてくださいます。 Thank you that you accept us and love us just as we are. このままのわたしたちを受け入れ、愛してくださってありがとうございます。 Please help us to trust You. あなたを信頼できますように助けてください。 Please help each of us to surrender ourselves to You, and to ask You to clean up our hearts. わたしたちそれぞれがあなたに自分自身を委ね、わたしたちの心を清めてもらえるようにあなたに求めるように助けてください。 Please free us from the influence of our sins わたしたちの罪の影響から解き放ってくださり、 so that we can live our lives in true freedom that is in You. あなたと共に真の自由の中で生きることができますように。
