Luke 19:1-10

Luke 19:1-10
Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through.
A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy.
He wanted to see who Jesus was, but being a short man he could not, because of the crowd.
So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.
When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today."
So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.
All the people saw this and began to mutter, "He has gone to be the guest of a `sinner.'"
But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount."
Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham.
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost."

それからイエスは、エリコに入って、町をお通りになった。
ここには、ザアカイという人がいたが、彼は取税人のかしらで、金持ちであった。
彼は、イエスがどんな方か見ようとしたが、背が低かったので、群衆のために見ることができなかった。
それで、イエスを見るために、前方に走り出て、いちじく桑の木に登った。ちょうどイエスがそこを通り過ぎようとしておられたからである。
イエスは、ちょうどそこに来られて、上を見上げて彼に言われた。「ザアカイ。急いで降りて来なさい。きょうは、あなたの家に泊まることにしてあるから。」
ザアカイは、急いで降りて来て、そして大喜びでイエスを迎えた。
これを見て、みなは、「あの方は罪人のところに行って客となられた」と言ってつぶやいた。
ところがザアカイは立って、主に言った。「主よ。ご覧ください。私の財産の半分を貧しい人たちに施します。また、だれからでも、私がだまし取った物は、四倍にして返します。」
イエスは、彼に言われた。「きょう、救いがこの家に来ました。この人もアブラハムの子なのですから。
人の子は、失われた人を捜して救うために来たのです。」
Today I brought in my special hat.
今日、私はとっておきの帽子を持ってきました。

But I didn't bring it here to wear.
でもかぶるために持ってきたのではないんです。

I brought this hat in because there is actually something inside it.
中に何か入っているからこの帽子を持ってきたんです。

But because it’s in the hat, you can't see it.
帽子の中だから、それは見えませんよ。

So I'm going to ask a volunteer to describe it for you.
それを説明するためにどなたかボランティアをお願いします。

Can you please come to the front.
前に来てください。

I want you to describe to everyone here today what is in the hat please.
帽子の中にあるものを今日ここにいらっしゃるみなさんに説明して欲しいんです。

But you are not allowed to look in the hat yourself.
でも帽子の中のものを見ないでくださいね。

You have to put your hand inside the hat and feel what is there.
帽子の中に手を入れて、中に何があるのか触れてみてください。

Please tell us one characteristic of what you can feel inside the hat.
帽子の中の物にふれて１つだけ特徴を言ってください。

Now, I want to ask someone else.
それでは、ほかの方にも聞いてみたいと思います。

What you think is in the hat?

We have heard three people describe various characteristics of it.
私たちは3人の方の説明を聞きました。

But how can we find out what it really is?
どうやったらそのものが本当はどういうものであるのか、わかるでしょう？

How can we know with confidence what it is actually like?
どうやったらそのものが本当はどのようなものであるのか、自信をもって知ることができるのでしょう？

Of course, all we need to do is take it out of the hat and look with our own eyes.
それを取り出して自分の目で見る必要がありますね。

So, let's do it.

Now you can see what it is.

It’s a picture.
写真です！

A photo of a person.
ある人の写真です。

But who is it?
だれでしょう？

What is this person like?
この人はどういう人でしょう？

How can we know?
どうやったらわかるでしょう？

There is a saying in English: "A picture tells a 1000 words."
英語には「一枚の絵は一千語に匹敵する」ということわざがあります。

When we look at a picture of a person, we can get an impression of what they are like.
人の写真を見て、私たちはその人がどのような人であるかという印象を持ちます。

Maybe the clothes that they are wearing make us think about their personal taste, their culture , or their background.
その人の服がその人の好み、文化、経歴を感じさせるかも知れません。

And if they look similar to someone we already know, it's very easy to hold a preconception about their personality.
また、その人がすでに知っている誰かに似ているなら、その人の個性について先入観を持ちやすくなります。

So there is another saying in English: "You can't judge a book by its cover."
だから、英語には「表紙を見て本を判断することはできない」というもう１つのことわざもあります。

That is, the imagery of the cover of a book might not necessarily reflect the book’s content.
それは、本の表紙の心象は必ずしも本の中身を反映するものではないのかもしれない、という意味のことです。

And so this saying means that a person's outward appearance, or at least the impression that we get of a person, might not necessarily reflect what that person is really like.
このことわざは人の外見の様子、あるいは少なくともその人から受ける印象は必ずしもその人が本当はどのような人であるのか反映するものではないのかもしれません。

Outward appearances and first impressions can be deceiving.
外見の特徴と第一印象は思い違いをさせることがあります。

And other people’s explanations are also influenced by those people’s own personal perceptions and experiences.
そして他の人の説明もその人自身の認識や経験に影響されます。

So, what's the best way to find out what a person is really like?
では人が本当に、どういう人であるのか見出すために一番良い方法は何でしょう？

I think it goes without saying that we really get to know what a person is like when we personally spend time with them.
いうまでもなく、その人とともに実際に過ごす時、初めてその人がどのような人かわかるのです。

If we only spend a little time with someone, we only get to know them a little bit.
誰かとほんの少し一緒に過ごしたぐらいなら、その人のことはほんの少ししか知りえないのです。

But if we spend a lot of time with someone, then we can get to know them a lot.
一方、多くの時間を共に過ごしたなら、多くのことを知りえるでしょう。

It makes sense.
それはそうでしょう！

This year during Chapel we have been looking at what the Bible tells us about our identity as God's creation.
今年、バイリンガルチャペルでは聖書が私たちが神様の創造物として何者であるかについてどう語っているかを学んでいます。

We have been looking at who we really are.
私たちが本当は何者であるのか、見てきました。

But in order to know more about ourselves;
しかし、私たち自身についてもっと知るために

In order to know who we really are;
私たちが本当は何者であるのかをわかるために

We need to know more about the God who created us.
先ず、私たちをつくられた神様についてもっと知る必要があります。

We need to know more about who He really is.
神様が本当に何者であるのか、もっと知らなければならないのです。

Because, it is as we start to look at ourselves through God’s eyes that we start to learn and experience the amazing value that God Himself has placed within us.
なぜなら、神様の目を通して自分自身を見始めるとき、私たちは、神様が私たちの中に置いていてくださっている価値を知り、体験し始めるからです。

Psalm 34 verse eight tells us:
詩篇34編8節にこう書かれています。

  • Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. (Psalm 34:8)
  • 【主】のすばらしさを味わい、これを見つめよ。幸いなことよ。彼に身を避ける者は。（詩篇３４篇８節）


One day, a long time ago, Jesus was passing through the city of Jericho.
ある日、イエス様はエリコの町を通りかかりました。

And there was a man there who wanted to see Jesus.
イエス様に会いたがっている男がいました。

He wanted to know more about Jesus.
彼はイエス様のことをもっとよく知りたかったのです。

He wanted to see Jesus with his own eyes.
イエス様を自分の目で見たかったのです。

He wanted to hear Jesus with his own ears.
イエス様のお話を自分の耳で、直接聞きたかったのです。

He wanted to experience Jesus personally, himself.
イエス様ご自身に会う経験をしたかったのです。

He had probably already heard about Jesus from other people.
彼はたぶんほかの人からイエス様のことについて聞いたことはあったのでしょう。

For example, when Jesus taught the Scriptures, those words seemed to come alive in people's hearts.
たとえば、イエス様が聖書のお話をするとき、そのお言葉が生きるものになって人々の心に入ってくるようであったことなどです。

There were reports of Jesus miraculously healing people, and demonstrating authority over nature.
人々を奇跡的に癒したり、自然に対する力を見せたりしておられたという報告もありました。

And Jesus seemed to go out of his way to spend time with sinners.
そして、イエス様はわざわざ罪人を見つけ出し、一緒に過ごされていたようでした。

In fact Jesus seemed to accept the very people whom society had rejected.
事実、イエス様は社会に拒絶された人々こそを受け入れたようでした。

Zacchaeus was one of those people.
ザアカイはそのような人の一人でした。

Now, if you know the story of Zacchaeus , which is recorded in Luke chapter 19, then you probably already have an impression of what kind of person Zacchaeus was.
もし、ルカの１９章に記されているこのザアカイの話をご存じなら、ザアカイがどのような人であったのかという印象はすでにお持ちでしょう。

And no doubt everyone in Jericho, where he lived, also felt the same way about him.
そして、間違いなく、ザアカイが住んでいたエリコの町の人もみな同じような印象を持っていたでしょう。

Zacchaeus was a tax collector.
ザアカイは取税人でした。

He was a rich tax collector.
彼はお金持ちの取税人でした。

Jewish tax collectors were considered to be traitors, and even spies of the invading Roman government.
ユダヤの取税人は裏切り者、ローマから侵入しているスパイであるとさえ考えられていました。

The tax money that they collected from their Jewish countrymen was passed on to the enemy Roman Government.
ユダヤの人々から集められた税金は敵国ローマに渡されました。

But the tax collectors would indiscriminately take additional money to line their own pockets.
しかし収税人は見境なく徴収額を水増しして自分の利益にしていました。

So, they ignored the position of faith and feelings of their own countrymen towards their infidel Roman captors;
そのようにして、収税人たちは異教徒のローマの支配者に対する、ユダヤ人の自分の仲間の信仰や気持ちを無視していたのす。

And they were indifferent to their social and financial predicament.
そして、その仲間の社会や経済的困難にも無関心でした。

Zacchaeus was not only a tax collector, he was a leader of other tax collectors: a traitor among traitors.
ザアカイは収税人であるばかりでなく、取税人のリーダーでもありました。裏切り者の中の裏切り者です。

So he was despised by his own countrymen.
だから彼はユダヤ人にひどく嫌われていました。

But although Zacchaeus may have been indifferent to other people's feelings, I think that he was nevertheless very much able to understand the meaning of those feelings.
しかし、ザアカイはほかの人がどう思おうと関心はなかったかもしれませんが、ほかの人が彼をどのように思っていたか知っていたでしょう。

He wanted to be successful.
彼は人生に成功したいと思っていました。

He wanted to be independent.
彼は楽に暮らせるようになりたいと思っていました。

And, I think, in truth, he wanted to be accepted.
本当は彼は受け入れてもらいたいと思っていたのだと私は思います。

But Zacchaeus had misplaced values.
しかしながら、ザアカイはものの価値を見誤っていました。

Now, our values determine our priorities.
私たちの価値観は優先事項を決定します。

So because Zacchaeus’ values were misplaced, his priorities were also distorted.
だから、ザアカイの価値観は間違っていたので、彼の優先事項もゆがんでいました。

He didn’t know his own true value.
彼は自分自身の本当の価値を知りませんでした。

And he didn’t know the value of the people around him.
彼は自分の周りの人々の価値をも知りませんでした。

Like anybody, Zacchaeus had needs.
他の人と同じように、ザアカイも満たされる必要がありました。

Zacchaeus had desires.
ザアカイには願望がありました。

And he wanted those needs and desires to be filled.
彼はじぶんの必要や願望を満たされたいと思っていました。

But, in spite of what he really wanted, Zacchaeus had turned his back on the source of true blessings.
しかし本当にそう望んでいたにもかかわらず、ザアカイは本当の祝福の源に背を向けていました。

Zacchaeus was looking for freedom, security and success.
ザアカイは自由、安全、人生の成功を求めていました。

But he was trying to find it independently of God.
しかし、彼は神様なくしてそれを見つけようとしていたのです。

And as he did that, he had also turned his back on his fellow countrymen.
そして、そうした中で、自分の仲間にも背を向けていました。

The natural consequence of that was that his countrymen had also rejected him.
当然、ユダヤ人たちも彼を拒絶しました。

They had given up on him.
彼らはザアカイのことはあきらめていました。

But Jesus knew there was hope for this man
しかしイエス様はこの男には望みがあることを知っていました。

Other people could not change him.
だれも彼のことは変えられませんでした。

He could not change himself.
自分自身を変えることもできませんでした。

But Jesus was not putting his hope in other people to change Zacchaeus.
しかし、イエス様はザアカイを変えるためにほかの人に希望を託してはいませんでした。

And Jesus was not putting his hope in Zacchaeus to change himself.
そしてイエス様はザアカイが自分自身を変えることにも希望を持っていませんでした。

Jesus knew that the only hope for Zacchaeus to change was in Jesus Himself.
自分が変わるためにザアカイにとってただ一つの希望はイエス様そのものだということを、イエス様は知っていました。

Zacchaeus needed to know this.
ザアカイはこのことを知る必要がありました。

In spite of being rejected by everyone else;
みんなに拒絶されたにもかかわらず

In spite of having to live with the consequences of the decisions and mistakes that he had made in his life;
今までの決定やまちがいの結果であったにもかかわらず

Zacchaeus needed to know that there was hope for him to change.
ザアカイは自分には変わることができる希望があることを知らなければなりませんでした。

He needed to know where that hope was.
彼はその希望がどこにあるのか知らなければなりませんでした。

He needed to know how to get that hope.
彼はどうやってその希望を手に入れるのか、知らなければなりませんでした。

No one else there was prepared to help him.
だれもすすんで彼を助けようとするものはいませんでした。

Jesus was coming.
そこにイエス様はやってきました。

Zacchaeus had heard about Jesus.
ザアカイはイエス様のことをきいたことがありました。

He had heard stories about Jesus.
彼はイエス様についての話を聞いたことがありました。

He had heard people's opinions about Jesus.
イエス様についての人々の話を聞いたことがありました。

But Zacchaeus did not know Jesus himself.
しかしザアカイはイエス様ご自身のことを知りませんでした。

Nevertheless, he was curious.
それにもかかわらず、彼はイエス様には関心がありました。

Who was this Jesus?
イエス様とはだれでしょう？

Why were people so interested in him?
なぜ人々はイエス様にそんなに興味を持ったのでしょう？

There was a crowd.
群衆が集まっていました。

But Zacchaeus was short.
ザアカイは背の低い人でした。

The crowd made no effort to give him a chance to see Jesus when He passed by.
群衆はイエス様が通り過ぎるときそのお姿を見るチャンスをザアカイに少しでも与えようとしませんでした。

Actually, I think the fact that he had to climb a tree in order to catch a glimpse of Jesus just shows that they were really aware that Zacchaeus was there, and that they actively sought to shut him out.
それどころか、イエス様のお姿を垣間見るためにザアカイが木に登らなければならなかったという事実は、群衆がザアカイをちゃんと認識していたのに、わざと彼を閉めだそうとしていたということではなかったかと思います。

Jesus was passing by, but they didn’t think that Zacchaeus had any right to be there.
イエス様は通り過ぎようとしていましたが、群衆はザアカイがそこにいる権利はないと思っていたでしょう。

Why would Jesus go to see him?
イエス様は彼に会いに行くもんか？

Why would Jesus be interested in him
イエス様は彼に興味を持つ訳がないでしょうに？

Why would Jesus want to help someone like him?
イエス様は彼のような人を助けたいはずがないでしょう？

And, did Zacchaeus even think that he needed help from Jesus?
そして、ザアカイ自身もイエス様に救っていただく必要があると思っていたのでしょうか？

At any rate, Zacchaeus was interested.
兎に角、ザアカイはイエス様に対して関心がありました。

He wanted to see Jesus for himself.
彼は直接イエス様を見たかったのです。

He wanted to taste and see.
イエス様の素晴らしさを味わい、見たかったのです。

But it seemed that His way to Jesus was blocked.
しかしイエス様にお会いすることには障害があるようでした。

And surely he knew why the crowd was pushing him away.
そして、彼はなぜ群衆が彼のことを押しのけるのかわかっていたはずでした。

How did he feel about them?
彼は群衆に対してどう思ったのでしょう？

Did he despise them in return?
その悪意故に、彼は群衆を憎んだでしょうか？

Climbing into a tree would certainly make him and easy target for the people’s spite.
木に登ったことで人々の悪意のターゲットになりやすいものになっていたはずです。

What would have been going through his head as he climbed?
木に登りながら彼は一体何を考えていたでしょうか？

Zacchaeus was a small man.
ザアカイは背の低い人でした。

And he had a small hope.
彼の希望もささやかなものでした。

He was interested in who Jesus was.
彼はイエス様が何者だったのか、ということに関心がありました。

He couldn't go to Jesus himself.
彼はイエス様のところに行くことができませんでした。

But if he climbed that tree, maybe he would be able to see Jesus pass by.
しかし、木に登ったら、彼は通り過ぎるイエス様のお姿を見ることができるかもしれません。

However, it was Jesus who saw Zacchaeus.
しかし、逆に、イエス様の方がザアカイを見たのです。

Jesus saw him in the tree.
イエス様は木の上にいるザアカイを見ました。

Jesus knew why he was in the tree.
イエス様はなぜ彼が木の上にいたのかご存知でした。

Jesus knew the people;
イエス様はその周りの人々のことをもわかっていました。

And Jesus knew Zacchaeus.
そしてイエス様はザアカイのこともわかっていました。

But although the people only saw the negative in Zacchaeus, Jesus saw that small hope within him.
人々はザアカイのことを否定的に見ているだけでしたが、イエス様は彼の中にその小さな希望を見ました。

It was only a small hope.
それはささやかな希望だけでした。

But it was enough for Jesus.
しかしそれでイエス様には充分でした。

No matter how small a hope is, it is never too small for Jesus to work with.
どんなに小さな希望であっても、イエス様にとって小さすぎるということはありません。

If we put even the smallest amount of hope in Jesus,
私たちがイエス様にたとえごく小さな希望をおきさえすれば、

Jesus is able to take that hope and transformed that situation.
イエス様はその希望を用いてその状況を変えることができます。

Jesus is able to use that hope and change us.
イエス様はその希望を用いて私たち自身を変えることができます。

Zacchaeus had no idea that Jesus was going to go to him.
ザアカイはイエス様が自分のところに来てくださるなんて思ってもいませんでした。

Zacchaeus would never have imagined that Jesus was going to show an interest in him.
ザアカイはイエス様がまさか自分に関心を持ってくださるなんて想像したこともなかったでしょう。

Nobody else would have believed that Jesus would offer Himself to be Zacchaeus’ guest.
イエス様がザアカイのお客様になるなんて誰も考えようともしなかったでしょう。

But Jesus is never put off by people’s unbelief.
しかし、イエス様人の不信心によって決して諦めたりすることはありません。

On the contrary, Jesus rejoices in hope that is put in Him.
それどころか、イエス様は信頼する希望をイエス様に寄せることをおおいに喜ばんでくださいます。

No matter how small it might be, Jesus responds to trust that is put in Him.
たとえその希望がどんなに小さくても、イエス様は信頼で応えてくださいます。

And so Jesus responded to this small hope that was within Zacchaeus.
だからイエス様はザアカイの中にあったその小さな希望に応えてくださいました。

In the face of his problems, it was all Zacchaeus could do to climb that tree to try to see Jesus from the distance.
遠くからイエス様を見ようとして木に登ることがザアカイにとっては精一杯のことでした。

But Jesus knew what was in Zacchaeus.
しかしイエス様はザアカイの心の内をご存知でした。

So it was Jesus who did what was necessary for Zacchaeus.
だから、ザアカイにとって必要なことをイエス様の方がなさいました。

Jesus went to Zacchaeus.
イエス様はザアカイのところに行きました。

You know the story, right.
みなさんはこの物語をご存知ですよね？

When Jesus showed His acceptance of Zacchaeus, the crowd directed their rejection of Zacchaeus onto Jesus.
イエス様がザアカイを受け入れる態度を示したとき、群衆はザアカイへの嫌悪をイエス様の方に向けました。

The crowd had gathered there to see Jesus out of wonder and respect.
本当は群衆はイエス様に対する驚きと尊敬を持って集まってきていました。

But now, because Jesus had publically shown care for Zacchaeus, those same people now suddenly turned against Jesus and despised Him.
しかし、イエス様がみんなの前でザアカイを受け入れようとしておられたから、その同じ人たちがイエス様を逆に拒んでしまいました。

So, when Zacchaeus realized that Jesus had been prepared to publically accept and receive Zacchaeus at the expense of His own self,
そのため、イエス様が群衆の前でご自分を犠牲にしながらザアカイを受け入れるほどのことしてくださったということに気づいたとき

Zacchaeus understood that Jesus was the real thing.
ザアカイはイエス様こそが真実なのだと理解しました。

Jesus’ love for Zacchaeus was true. It was unconditional.
イエス様のザアカイへの愛は真実でした。それは無条件の愛でした。

And when Zacchaeus saw the truth of Jesus’ unconditional love for him, the needs and desires of his heart were suddenly satisfied and fulfilled.
そこで、ザアカイに対するイエス様の無条件の愛の真実がわかったとき、彼の心の必要と願望は唐突に満足し、満たされました。

When Zacchaeus experienced total acceptance by Jesus, he was able to totally accept himself.
ザアカイがイエス様の完全な受け入れを体験したとき、彼は自分自身を完全に受け入れることができました。

Zacchaeus became freed to accept his own weaknesses and mistakes.
ザアカイは自分の弱さとまちがいを受け入れる自由が与えられました。

And he received the courage and power to make right the wrongs that he had done.
そして彼は今までやってきた過ちをただすための勇気と力をもらいました。

When Zacchaeus understood his own value in God’s eyes, his own eyes were opened to see the same value in the people around him.
ザアカイが神様の目によって彼自身の価値を理解したとき、彼自身の目は彼の周りの人々にも同様の価値があると理解する目が開かれました。

And so Zacchaeus became liberated to express loving care by proactively blessing other people in need.
そのようにして、ザアカイは助けを必要とするほかの人に積極的に恩恵を与えることができるように解放されました。

What started off as just a small hope in a seemingly hopeless person developed into a dramatic and amazing, life-filled change.
見たところでは希望のない人のほんの小さな希望から始まったことがめざましく、驚くばかりに、人生を満たす変化へと発展しました。

Did anyone foresee this amazing transformation coming?
この驚くべき変化を予見できた人はいたでしょうか？

Could anyone who knew Zacchaeus have dared to guess that he might be capable of doing what he did?
ザアカイを知っていた人の中には彼がそんなことができるようになるなどと思った人がいたでしょうか？

Would Zacchaeus himself have ever dreamt that he might actually be able to become that kind of person?
ザアカイ自身もそんな人に本当になれると夢見たことがあったでしょうか？

Even if nobody else could have, Jesus did!
でも、たとえ、他のだれもができなかったとしても、イエス様は分かっておられました。

Jesus knew that this would be possible with Zacchaeus.
イエス様はザアカイにはできると知っておられました。

Jesus knew that, because that is how God had originally made Zacchaeus to be.
それは神様はもともとザアカイをそのようなものになるためにつくられたからです。

But for this to be made possible, Zacchaeus had to know who he really was.
しかし、ザアカイがそうなるためには、自分は本当に何者であるかを知らなければなりませんでした。

Zacchaeus had to know his own true value.
ザアカイは彼自身の本当の価値を知らなければなりませんでした。

Only then his eyes would be opened to see the true value of the people around him.
そのときはじめて彼の目は周りの人々の本当の価値を見るために開かれるのでしょう。

But for that to happen, Zacchaeus needed to know who he really was.
しかし、ザアカイがそうなるためには、自分は本当は何者であるかを知らなければならなかったのです。

And He could only really know who he was by knowing Jesus for who He really is.
そこで、自分が本当に何者であるのかを知るために、まず、本当のイエス様に出会わなければならなかったのです。

Not knowing about Him, like in a photo, but knowing Him, experiencing Him, personally.
写真のように、イエス様についての知識を蓄えることではなく、自分自身でイエス様を知ること、イエス様を経験することです。

Jesus described knowing Him as being like a mustard seed.
イエス様はご自分を知ることはカラシナの種のようなものだと言われました。

Mustard seeds are so small, yet when they are planted, they grow into great bushes which provide shade and protection.
カラシナの種はとても小さいので、種がまかれると日かげをつくる雑草の中で育ちます。

The more we get to know Jesus, the greater our trust in Him will grow.
イエス様を知れば知るほど、イエス様に対する信頼はますます大きくなります。

Maybe you have been hurt or disappointed by someone.
あなたは誰かに傷つけられたり、誰かに失望したことがあるかも知れません。

You can't change them.
その人を変えることはできません。

You may have given up on them.
その人に見切りをつけたこともあるかもしれません。

Please know that God never gives up on anyone.
神様は誰のことも見切りをつけたりしないことを知ってください。

God is still able to help that person;
それでも、神様はその人を助けることができます。

If you surrender that person to God in prayer, God will work with even the smallest amount of trust that you give Him.
その人を祈りを持って神様に委ねたら、その希望がどんなに小さいものであっても、神様はそれを用いて働いてくださいます。

And, even if you don't see immediate changes in that person, God will certainly open your own eyes to see the changes that He is making within yourself.
そして、たとえ、その人にすぐ変化が見えなくても、神様は自分自身の中に神様が起こしている変化を見る目を開かせてくださるでしょう。

So, even if you have tried and failed many times to change your own situation;
だから、たとえ、もし自分の立場を変えるために何度も挑戦し、失敗しても

Even if you have given up hope in your own self;
たとえ自分自身に希望を失っていたとしても

Please know that God will use even the smallest amount of trust that you place in Him.
神様の中におくあなたの希望がどんなに小さくても、神様はそれを用いてくださることを知ってください。

You don’t even have to climb a tree.
木に登る必要はありません。

It’s like the photo of a person.
人の写真のようなものです。

As you put even the smallest trust in Jesus, He will respond to that.
イエス様への小さな信頼さえあれば、神様はそれに応えてくださるでしょう。

He will use that hope to reveal even more of who He really is.
神様はあなたが神様に置くその希望を用いて、ご自身のことをもっと明らかにしてくださるのです。

And as we personally know and experience Him more and more in that reality, we will also find the transforming power of Jesus working within ourselves.
そして、私たちが個人的に神様をもっともっと知り、体験する中、私たちの中で人、また、状況を変えることのできるイエス様の力を見つけることができるでしょう。

  • Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. (Psalm 34:8)

Father God,
天のお父様

Thank you for showing us who you are.
あなたがどなたであるのかをしめしていただき、ありがとうございます。

You are the God who sees us.
あなたは私たちを見ていてくださる神様です。

You are the God who cares for us.
あなたは私たちを気づかってくださる神様です。

You are the God who accepts us, and who comes to us, where we are.
あなたは私たちを受け入れ、私たちのところに来てくださる神様です。

And You are the God who heals us.
あなたは私たちを癒してくださる神様です。

You are able to make us into the people that You want us to be.
あなたは、私たちをあなたが望むような人にすることができます。

You can make us whole.
あなたは私たちを完全なものにすることができます。

Thank you for showing us who You are.
あなたがどなたであるのか、私たちにしめしていただきありがとうございます。

Please help each of us to know You personally;
あなたを親密に知るために私たち一人一人を助けてください。

to experience You personally.
自分自身であなたを体験できますように助けてください。

Please help us to know you for who You really are
あなたが本当にどなたであるのか知るために私たちを助けてください。

So that we will be fulfilled in You
そうすれば私たちはあなたに満たされます。

and that You will be glorified in us.
そしてあなたの栄光が私たちの中に表されます。
